Biography of Chris Twomey

For nearly forty years Chris has been at the heart of the music scene in his home town of Cork. He was a founder member of The Lee Valley String Band. He never realized in 1968, when he first founded the band, that it would be still going full steam ahead in 2005. There have been many personnel changes over the years but Chris has been a constant.

He was also a member of The Steam Packet Company and Jimmy Crowley and Stokers Lodge.

He recorded an EP 'At Last', in 1983, with The Lee Valley String Band to celebrate their 15th anniversary.

He has appeared many times on National Television including appearances on 'The Late Late Show', 'Sult', 'Other Voices, Songs from a Room' and 'Bringing It All Back Home'.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Lee Valley String Band Nashville producer Jim Rooney was brought in to produce the album "Corner Boys".

In the year 1999 Kevin Gill presented him, on behalf of the Irish Bluegrass Music Club, with a Wheelhoss award. This award was given to those who had served the music well and was an acknowledgement for the contribution Chris has made over the years.

Chris can be seen and heard in the Corner House,Coburg Street, Cork, every Mon night playing live with The Lee Valley String Band.
